The short version

This policy covers the GEM website and web app at gemtcg.app, run by Gem TCG ("GEM", "we"). It explains what data GEM handles, why, and the choices you have.

1. Data that stays on your device

Your portfolio, watchlist, grading submissions, price alerts, saved scenarios, theme and similar settings are saved in your browser's local storage on your device. They aren't sent to GEM's servers. Clearing your browser's site data removes them, and each browser and device keeps its own copy.

While the app is open, GEM may re-check the current price of items in your portfolio. It does this by asking GEM's server for a product's public price page. Only the product link is sent, never your holdings, quantities or what you paid.

2. Anonymous visit counts

To learn which features people use, GEM keeps its own visit counter. When you load a page or use certain features, your browser sends a small note with:

GEM's server adds your country (from our hosting provider) and your device type and operating system (from your browser's user agent). To count unique visitors, it combines your IP address and user agent with a secret value that changes every day and keeps only the scrambled result. It doesn't store your IP address, and the scrambled result can't be matched from one day to the next. Daily totals are kept for about 13 months. The "active right now" count keeps that day's scrambled value for 30 minutes, and a list of the last 40 events (with no identifiers) is kept for the live view. GEM doesn't set cookies for visitors, and doesn't send any of this to analytics or advertising companies.

3. Data you choose to send

Showcase links. When you create a share link for your showcase, GEM stores what's in that showcase: the cards and products you picked, their grades, your title, and only the values you chose to show. Anyone with the link can view it. Links are kept for one year. To have one removed sooner, email us with the link.

Launch email list. If you join the list, GEM stores your email address and the date you joined. We use it only to tell you when the GEM apps launch, and never share or sell it. To be removed, email us and we'll delete it.

Card searches. When you search for something not in GEM's catalogue, your search text goes to GEM's server, which looks it up on PriceCharting. The result is cached for up to a day so repeat searches are fast. Searches aren't linked to you.

4. Owner-only features

Portfolio sync across devices and selling on eBay are currently available only to the site owner, not to other visitors. Those features store the owner's own portfolio and, if connected, eBay access tokens, encrypted. When eBay tells GEM that an eBay account has been closed, GEM deletes everything it stored for that account. Before these features open to everyone, this policy will be updated to explain them first.

5. Services GEM relies on

6. Your choices and rights

You can use GEM without an account and without giving any personal information. You can delete everything GEM keeps on your device by clearing site data for gemtcg.app in your browser. For data on GEM's servers (a showcase link or your email address), email us to see, correct or delete it. Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR or California law), you may have further rights. GEM will honour them, and you can contact us to use them.

7. Children

GEM isn't directed at children under 13 and doesn't knowingly collect their personal information. If you think a child has given us an email address, contact us and we'll delete it.

8. Changes

If this policy changes, this page will show the new date. Significant changes, such as accounts or other new data uses, will be explained here before they take effect.
